Lightning risk assessment is a fundamental technical analysis to ensure the safety of buildings, industrial plants, infrastructure and photovoltaic systems. But who is responsible for carrying out this assessment and what skills must they have?
⚡ What is lightning risk assessment?
Lightning risk assessment is a mandatory analysis according to the CEI EN 62305 standard, which establishes the criteria for identifying the need for a lightning protection system (LPS).
The aim is to determine whether the building or plant is exposed to a significant risk and, if so, to define the measures to be taken to protect people, property and structures.
Who can carry out a lightning risk assessment?
The assessment must be carried out by a qualified technician, usually:
- An electrical or civil engineer with expertise in plant engineering
- A qualified industrial expert
- A plant designer with specific training and knowledge in the field of atmospheric discharges
- In some cases, safety managers (RSPP), if adequately trained
The law requires that the assessment be drawn up using documented technical criteria and in accordance with current regulations. In particular, for activities subject to inspection by the fire brigade (such as warehouses, industrial plants and public buildings), the assessment is part of the mandatory safety documentation.
When is it mandatory?
Lightning strike risk assessment is mandatory in the following cases:
- For industrial buildings, production facilities and structures subject to direct or indirect lightning strikes.
- In the presence of photovoltaic systems.
- In environments where flammable or explosive materials are present.
- In buildings with high public traffic (e.g. schools, churches, shopping centres).
✅ Euthalia supports designers and installers
Thanks to its patented Antimpatto® technology, Euthalia offers preventive and invisible protection against lightning strikes, which is much more effective than traditional lightning conductors.
We work with technicians, designers and installers, offering technical assistance and documentation support for lightning risk assessments and the design of protection systems.
Why choose Euthalia
- Patented technology
- Active and preventive protection: lightning is neutralised before it is generated
- Suitable for historic buildings, churches, warehouses, photovoltaic systems
- Compatible with CEI EN 62305 standard
